SOFTSKIN is a creative latex brand that merges fetish elements with art fashion, being eco friendly and sustainable it is entirely handmade. Gemma, the designer behind the brand, spoke to us about her inspirations, genderfluidity and future plans. Also sharing some stunning images from the brand, reflecting on body positivity, kink and queer culture.

Soft Skin Latex is femme fetish wear brand inspired by historical clothing, queer culture and the kink community. It’s basically an amalgamation of all of my interests in outfit form.

When you take latex out of the context of fetish and apply it to another aesthetic or time period for example, it transforms it into something else and allows for people to see the material with fresh eyes.

I’ve also worked with some really talented artists, models and photographers recently and I think that being creative and thoughtful in the way I present my work, takes it more into an artistic realm.

My partner Ollie is an artist, printmaker and photographer and we’re constantly creating alongside each other and bouncing ideas around which has been really inspiring especially through lockdown and everything that’s gone down this year!

It’s important that I design for anyone who is into what i do! I design and make clothes with all genders, sizes, colours and bodies in mind.

I’m inspired very much by queer culture, drag and genderfluidity, I love style that plays with the ideas masculinity and femininity and subverts these gender norms.

Ultimately I’d like the work I create to have a positive impact on people and I think there is always room for self improvement and education in terms of inclusivity and body positivity..

I have a couple of projects coming out in the New Year which I am really looking forward to…

I’ll be releasing a book, which I’m putting together with my partner Ollie; it’s a collection of images and collaborations we’ve managed to fit in this year – part photo zine, part lookbook, some of the images featured here are from shoots included in the book.

I’m also about to do some printing onto latex garments and a latex T-Shirt collaboration which I think will open up a whole new way of designing for me!
