Welcome to the World of Cain

Welcome to the world of CAIN –  the star of the new MEN.com reality TV show, Slag Wars, with unforgettable “Cock Destroyers” Rebecca More and Sophie Anderson. Cain talks exclusively to artPLAY sharing some of the images of the looks from the show. After years of producing fierce nightlife events within the LGBTQ+ community, he’s not only ready for his own moment in the spotlight – but he’s making sure issues around sex work are being brought to light in the process.

A strong activist, artist, and an absolute slag – but does he have what it takes to be the Next Destroyer?

artPLAY: Thank you for artPLAYing with us. We are thrilled to hear more about the new reality tv show that you are very successfully part of, tell us more what can we expect from Slag Wars?

Cain: It really is a reality show like NEVER before – celebrating queerness and sparking conversations around sex positivity. It’s ALL the camp, ridiculousness of the Cock Destroyers that you’d expect – but there are some real touching moments throughout the series.

Viewers are going to learn that there is so much more to sex work than just sex – including ALL the positives and negatives that come with it!

artPLAY:  You have some fierce looks, talk us through the “Hollywood” photos and the outfit.

Cain: It’s really a statement on the lack of authentic queer representation within TV and film, especially within Hollywood. Don’t get me wrong, it has been a strong year for LGBTQ+ representation, but overall the numbers are still paltry. Of an estimated 879 regular characters on broadcast scripted prime-time programming, only about 10% — 90 characters total — are explictly LGBTQ.

So much more can be done to not only bump up those numbers, but making sure it’s genuine – employing queer actors to play queer roles, quit queerbaiting, authentic queer representation is important. The more genuine queer stories there are, the more we allow queer stories to breathe.

To me, it’s shows like ‘Slag Wars’ that start to make the steps towards thats.

artPLAY:  All of us and especially artists go through difficult times right now, it is important to keep on going and be an example to others, how do you express yourself?

Cain: Prior to this year a lot of my expression would come through nightlife. Whether it was exploring my gender, sexuality, identity – throwing parties and dressing up with my nightlife family would be my creative playground.
COVID-19 has put so many restrictions in place and so many creatives have been stripped of their creative playgrounds. I decided to start merging my creativity with my sex work – working on creative concepts, how it’s shot and what it’s shot on. I’m so excited for people to see it.

artPLAY: What does the future hold for you?

Cain: My first scene with MEN.com dropped this month, which me and my friend – Christian Gordine – worked on. We shot it on a mix of iPhone and an old hi8 camcorder to give it this 80s Soho bargain bin porno feel.

Hopefully the future involves nightclubs being open and we can all have a big cuddle puddle on the dancefloor after the year we’ve had haha!
