Poetic world of Evelyn Bencicova

EVELYN BENCICOVA- Originally from Bratislava, is an art and fashion photographer and art director. She has a background in fine art and new media studies, her work has been published in such magazines as Vogue, Dazed & Confused and Elle magazine. In early 2018 Evelyn was invited to create visuals for the Institute of Molecular Biology in Austria, and to perform at the closing ceremony for Atonal Berlin.

Evelyn’s work is deeply poetic, it reveals a story yes is covered with an air of mystery and certainly has some fairytail qualities about it. Her technique is flawless, the colours are harmonious, tuned down and soft yet with sudden outbursts of colour, very much resembling a painting.

Evelyn’s photographs depict meticulously controlled compositions characterised by an aesthetic sterility, tinged with poetic undertones of timeless desire and longing. Bencicova constructs compelling narrative scenarios that blur the lines between reality, memory and imagination — “fictions based on truth”. Employing multifaceted symbolic representations as illusions, Evelyn plays with the viewer’s perception to entice them into the secret labyrinth of her imagination. Her disturbingly beautiful visual language and washed-out colour palette, set within curiously symbolic environments, allow for a deep exploration of the themes that take her images far beyond what they reveal at first glance.
